I’m not one to typically wear a blazer. In fact, I barely own a professional wardrobe as I prefer casual clothing. But lately I’m loving the look of an oversized glen plaid blazer! Women’s workwear in the 90’s inspired me to recreate the look for 2018. I love the comfort of 90s workwear – it was a much friendlier time to women in the workplace as far as comfortable attire! Rather than mimicking a vintage look, I opted to modernize it with a pair of faux leather pants and patent red boots. It was the perfect outfit for a mild winter day in NYC.
My allure to this jacket was definitely the length. Again, I’m not a fan of corporate attire so the longer length makes this outfit statement much less conventional and more appropriate for play vs work. I can totally see this going even more casual with a silky tank, straight leg jeans, and loafers or even over the knee boots.
There are so many similar styles of this jacket available online! For a modern silhouette try MANGO, TOPSHOP, or Forever21. I’m also really into the original, vintage version… it’s a more authentic look that can be mixed with present-day clothing. For vintage, go shop at Etsy or Ebay, where you’ll easily find several 90s blazers (many with a very strong shoulder and an itty bitty waist).
