Sosúa
Santiago
A few weeks ago, I spent a weekend in the Dominican Republic! It’s been 3 years since I last visited DR when I went to Punta Cana. This year, I decided to visit the DR like a local and visit Santiago. It’s been almost 8 years since I last visited one of the largest cities in DR and the city I was born in. I still have a lot of family that lives there too! My trip was perfectly timed since I left immediately after the “bomb cyclone” hit NYC which left over a foot of snow and was followed by sub-freezing temperatures. Heading out to the Caribbean was the perfect way to start off the new year!
Because I stayed in Santiago with family, I spent my few days there living like a local. It was refreshing to see the country in it’s most authentic form. I ate Dominican food, went to the public beach at Sosua, got a Dominican blow out, and hung out at Santiago’s iconic monument.
I traveled light, wearing breezy, lightweight fabrics everyday. It was like summer in January out there! As for the beach, I’m really into a black one piece under a kimono. Sure, the bright pink earrings may have been a bit much but I was feeling festive. Midi dresses are life when traveling, because they can easily go from day-to-night.
