High-low – it’s a pattern of buying where you mix up designer with cheap, fast fashion like Forever21 and Zara. I’m all about high-low… but more of high at a low price. The RealReal is an online, luxury consignment shop where you can find major deals on designer clothing and accessories. Some of these designers include what I am wearing in this post – Rebecca Minkoff, Derek Lam 10 Crosby, and Diane von Furstenburg.
Tips for Shopping Consignment
The RealReal already did the work for you – grouping like categories, for example, The Dressed Down Ruffle, That’s So Clutch, and Textures We Love. Basically, they do the hard work for you in terms of grouping similar products that are on sale. Markdowns also change frequently, so I like to check out what is discounted that day.
Brand vs. Category
You can filter your search by brand, category, or both on The RealReal so you have the flexibility to be specific. I suggest to have a brand or category (dresses, handbags, shoes) in mind, but not both. You can’t be specific when it comes to thrifting/consignment since what’s in stock is what people are willing to give up. Also, you lose out on the fun making an awesome find.
Take Your Time
There is A LOT to dig through. Much like at an actual thrift or consignment store, you just can’t rush it. My boyfriend always complains about how much time I spend shopping, lol. The secret is to shop often and not spend a lot each time. A preamble to my next point, but I usually will only purchase something I really love and that fits with what I already own.
Lastly- if you really love something get it NOW! There were so many times I wished I purchased an item that sold out a few hours later. If you’re thrifting, have an open mind and equally open wallet 🙂
I personally like to reserve my designer purchases for investment pieces I can wear over and over again. Shop The RealReal HERE, and check out a few of my favorites currently available (but not for long!) on The RealReal below.
