Last night, election night, was a nail bitter – anxiety building and a near definite case of insomnia as we await results. After a longggg night, it’s important to refocus on one of my favorite things to do – SLEEP. I can reliably get 6-8 hours of sleep a night, and truly cannot function with less sleep. I know this is totally an indulgence I can have as someone still in her 20s without children, but I truly believe sleep is the fountain of youth! When it comes to mental health, sleep helps reduce stress, increase memory, and reduce the risk of depression. When it comes to beauty, expect a decrease in the appearance of dark circles and puffiness and a glowing, youthful complexion.
My tip to getting better sleep is simple: Create a bedtime routine that’s all about self care. What does this mean for me?
- Dimming my lights: After around 9PM, all my lights start getting shut off or dimmed. It helps me get into relaxation mode and mimics the sun setting
- Switching on the salt lamp: I find the light from my salt lamp to be so soothing. Salt lamps are also said to help purify the air in your room and promote sleep.
- Fresh face: I love sleeping with a fresh, moisturized face! I make sure to cleanse right before bed, and follow that with my nightly lash serum and a sleep mask. I’ve been using the belief Aqua bomb sleeping mask which is extra hydrating with hyaluronic acid!
- Light a candle: It’s all about relaxation, and for me that means warm scents like vanilla.
- Set work aside: No more work emails, calls, or projects. No more home chores. Do something that helps you step away from the “work” mindset. For me, it’s watching some TV. For others, it may be reading, listening to music, or listening to a podcast.
These are all really simple things you can also do, but doing these things right around bedtime helps you switch from the “on” to the “bedtime” mindset.
I’ve linked below a few of my absolute favorite sleep time products. From spa gloves to my holy grail facial cleanser, here is everything you’ll need for your best night’s sleep.
Sleep tight, friends!
