It’s my birthday month! May is wonderful- for NYC, it’s when the weather shifts to be mostly warm and beautiful in general, Taurus season, and of course when I welcome a new year of life. This year, I turn 29 – the last year of my 20s. It’s funny – I’m sure I was excited to turn 10, 20 was a fun one (closer to legal drinking age! college!) – but getting closer to 30 has me taking a deep dive reflecting on my last 9 years.
2019 has been a challenging year thus far, with many positives in between, but difficult nonetheless. In a matter of two weeks, I left the company I worked at for 6 years, signed a lease and moved into a new apartment, my relationship of 8 years fell apart, and I started a new job at a new company. So, challenging may not be the best choice of word here, lol.
The tougher months behind me now, I’ve found that it’s stifled my creativity, caused me to re-evaluate many of my previous choices, and actively work on myself. It’s the reason why, although I had all intents to blog consistently, keep up my fitness progress, and actively work on my social media accounts, I’ve taken a more passive approach. Perhaps, I’ve been stuck on these feelings rather than putting them on paper so to speak, expressing and letting it go.
Nearing my third decade, I’ve come to fully evaluate my last nine years: what I did and what I missed out on doing. It’s a very real thing to go through as I think to what is coming to my future self. It’s led to self-deprecating jokes and my running punch line of “my “almost 30’ self/body.” While I cannot take back time past, I’ve begun to work on myself privately: get comfortable with being single (it’s not easy and it takes time and many tears), getting to know myself better and be happy with who I have grown to be, and return to the activities that I love and continue to help me (yoga has helped me immensely with my anxiety, emotions, and find love for myself).
So here it is – almost 29, almost 30. What’s in store for the year ahead? Honestly… I’m not sure. New adventures I hope… in further developing my personal style, traveling, friendships, exploring NYC, dating, and overall expanding my horizons.
