As a blogger and serial shopaholic, you can bet I’ve acquired tons of clothing, shoes, and accessories. You’ll also know that NYC housing is devoid of storage space, so this spring I decided to do a closet clean out. I’m always getting questions with what I do with all my undesired clothing. Here’s why ThredUp is the perfect choice of you plan to clean out your closet! (Oh, and this is not sponsored! Although I’ve worked with ThredUp before, I truly do believe in practicing sustainability through consignment.)
It’s super easy.
ThredUp makes it’s easy to get rid of unwanted clothing that is still in good condition. Just go to thredup.com and request a clean out kit. You’ll be mailed a large polka dot bag that you can fit TONS of clothes. From there you can drop it off at a FedEx location, or leave it on your doorstep for pick up by US postal service! (Just remember to request a pick up online). From there, ThredUp will appraise your clothing and post to their site – no more work from you required!! I liked this a lot because I have used other platforms like Poshmark, but it’s a lot of work to create and maintain listings.
ThredUp accepts most brands (including fast fashion!)
What I love about ThredUp is that they accept most brands. As a bargain hunter and fast fashion shopper, I still want to resell my clothing that doesn’t have designer labels. Some of these brands include Zara, Old Navy, Mango, H&M, and Topshop. Just make sure the clothing is in very good to new condition!
Make money
I mean, this is the whole point, right? By reselling your clothing you get more closet space and a bit more cash in your wallet.
Donate clothing that can’t be resold
When Thredup doesn’t accept your clothing, you can choose to donate it. Often, this is due to stains or less then good quality condition of the clothing. For me, it’s actually really helpful since I don’t have to do the extra work to donate the clothing since I didn’t need them anyway.
Get a store credit and shop again!
And finally the best part- shopping! Although you can cash out, I like to use my store credit to shop again on ThredUp. Both my top and shoes were purchased on ThredUp! My top, a handkerchief printed, cold shoulder top by Rebecca Minkoff and the Jeffrey Campbell shoes were both purchased with tags at below 25% of the original retail price!
