As we reach the end of the 2010s, one beauty trend has prevailed over the others: bolder, thicker brows. It’s a seismic shift from the Greta Garbo-like styles of the early 2000s, and thank God for that! The trend was propagated by the envious full brows of Cara Delevingne and the skills of beauty gurus on Instagram and Youtube who made the look attainable for all.
So why another eye brow tutorial? I think we got a tad carried away with the boldness of our brows, and I’m here to cheer on a more natural look. Much like the rest of my makeup, I’ve taken an easier, day-to-day approach to natural brow makeup. Benefit Cosmetics, along with Ipsy, were generous enough to share some makeup goodies with me, including the Goof Proof Pencil and Gimme Brow gel. So I put them to the test – you can check out my beauty tutorial, made on Jumprope, below!
How to The Benefit Brow by mintandthrift on Jumprope.
Step 1: Light Brush Strokes
Using the Benefit Goof Proof Pencil, and holding the tool at the very end tip, lightly brush the product using short strokes. This gives a more natural appearance to the brows, similar to draw small hairs. By holding the tool at the end tip, you also reduce the chance of creating dark, severe lines. While I do fill in my entire brow, I really like to focus on filling in more sparse areas.
Step 2: Brush
The great thing about the Goof Proof Pencil is that it also includes a spoolie brush. After coloring in your brows, use the spoolie to distribute the product.
Step 3: Apply Tinted Brow Gel
If you like where your brows are after step 2, this step is totally optional! Same tip as the brow pencil here: go for a shade lighter, as a shade too dark can look harsh. I actually have curly brow hairs – they tend to kink right in the middle and are quite unruly. Brow gel helps keep them in place, while also thickening eyebrow hairs to create a fuller brow. Benefit’s Gimme Brow gel actually works great for both these purposes!
I just love that this adds more fullness to my brows without looking like I painted them on, and with hardly any effort. When I used to say I couldn’t leave the house without mascara, now I have to add brows to the mix. And when it’s this easy, it’s a simple addition that goes a long way.
