Fashion is cyclical- what’s in today might not be tomorrow but could explode In popularity a month later. It’s so evidently with the intense focus we’ve had on the 90s – from its monochromed, shoulder pad-laden suits to vintage Levi’s 501s. It’s no wonder that tie-dye has made its return.
Did I think I’d actually don tie-dye in 2019? No, absolutely not. During an Alice & Olivia event during Pride Month, I received a hand dyed shirt and figured that was my “in” to trying out the debatable print. No stranger to mixing “mint” and thrifted/vintage, I plopped on 80s costume jewelry and my favorite 501s (which finally got after 2 years.) I’ve now dubbed myself a convert!
Not all tie-dye is made equal, and I have a personal lenience toward either the more ombré or bleach-platter resembling dye. If you’re down to try it while it’s still hot, aim for a tee, slip dress, or fun accessories like a scrunchie.
