My favorite part of summer is wearing dresses but as temperatures drop I often feel dresses need to take a back seat. I figured out how to wear dresses in January temperatures – which tend to be icy – that will still keep you warm. The main answer? Layers, layers, layers.
It’s pretty obvious that mini dresses will be reserved for a more appropriate season, so I opt for midi to maxi dresses. You can easily wear leggings below the dress to keep your legs warm. I really like Uniqlo’s HEATTECH leggings, which are thin enough to layer below a dress without looking bulky.
Another layer of sorts is either a pair of knee high or over-the-knee boots. I prefer a less bulky look, so I stray away from the increasingly popular slouchy boots to a slimmer leg. Also, since I like to wear maxis and midis, a pointy-toed boot gives my legs some length.
Lastly- a warm coat, obviously! You just can’t go wrong with a suede coat with fur sleeves. I love the texture this adds to my earth toned outfit. This is an old Etienne Aigner jacket that I found at a sample sale late last year (for just $80!!), but I’ve linked a few current favorites for you below too 😉
