Let’s talk about weight – it’s always been a touchy subject for me. I’ve always been tough on my body, no matter what the scale read. I’ve been from a size 00 and now I’m teetering at a size 4/6/8 depending on the brand. I recognize that is by no means at all “fat”, but it certainly is my highest weight and size so I’m getting back to focusing on weight loss. As a blogger and overall shopaholic, it’s so difficult to wait to shop for clothing! For that reason, I’ve had to become more strategic with what I’m purchasing while I’m going through a weight loss journey.
Here’s the thing – no matter your size, you need to find clothing that makes you feel happy. Yes, it may be difficult, but it’s a must. So whether you are attempting to gain or lose weight, please please please continue to look for the clothing that will bring you joy but will still work through your personal journey.
A few of my tips…
Wrap Dresses FTW
Thank you, Diane von Furstenburg, for the wonderful creation that is a wrap dress. As a small/medium gal, I still have size XS, 0, and 2 dresses that I can wear at my current weight and that will work when I get to my goal weight. Wrap dresses, or any type of clothing that wraps and paperbag trousers and skirts, allow you to be more flexible with the sizing you choose. A word of caution here: don’t go so small you don’t fit or so large you are swimming in the attire. It should fit and adjust to your goal weight.
Look for Stretch
Knits, ruching, and stretchy panels work great on various body shapes. It also stretches or cinches depending on what size you’re going for, so it’s an easy way to have clothing that changes with your body.
Lifesaving Alterations
This will work best if you’re losing weight: can’t part with your favorite clothes after losing weight? Get it altered. I’ve had many dresses and jeans altered when I’ve lost weight. It’s a great way to keep your clothes without having to shop for an all new wardrobe. Something to be mindful of here: if you’re going for a drastic alteration, it may not be worth the cost. Certain alterations can make clothing look… off. In this case, resell or donate and reinvest in new clothing.
Wishing you all the best of luck on your #bodygoals journey!
