On my checklist of summer “cool girl” style are strappy kitten heels. Along with other 90’s things that are “in” right now, these are officially my shoe of summer 2019. The low heel makes them easy to wear (anything higher than 3-3.5 inches and they are my “party-where-I-sit-the-whole-night” pair), transition from daytime get togethers to late night summer parties, and are just classic.
You all KNOW I love a vintage find. One of my recent shopping sprees at Buffalo Exchange landed me these vintage, flip flop-esque sandals. They’re just a tad more elevated, literally and stylishly speaking, than your beach flip flops.
Before you start shopping, heed my advice for sporting summer sandals of any kind:
Have a cobbler ready at moments notice.
As much as I LOVE a kitten heel, they are high maintenance shoes that require special attention. I find that the short little heel often gets caught in cracks, drags on the floor, and easily wears down. Find a trusty cobbler who can quickly repair/replace the heels so you’re not eventually walking on metal sticks. I typically search on Yelp for a local cobbler with good reviews.
Combat blisters.
As someone who is chronically suffering from some kind of foot ailment (namely, blisters in varying locations), I’ve had to make conscious choices in my footwear and the accessories that I need to have on deck to make them functional for me. My purses have an arsenal of band-aids and blister guards survival kit.
Self-Indulge
I feel like my feet go through a lot, but more so in the summer. With prime pedestrian weather, I’m walking longer distances in less-than-ideal shoes. Pampering with a pedicure goes a long way in recovering my tired old feet. I also suggest using a foam roller and focusing on your calves, which get shortened and extra tight when wearing heels (or any height).
