Velvet has been a trending fabric for some time, but I haven’t fully embraced it until now. I find velvet to be a “dressier” fabric that’s best suited for special occasions, likes Christmas and New Year’s Eve. A refreshing take on the fabric is to go all out with it, and wearing a monochrome suit. I find this to be a classy, grown up take on the fabric of the 90s.
My love for factory stores during Black Friday lead me to the Ann Taylor Factory website, and I found a very affordable suit! The black blazer cinches right at the waist with a tie, while the wide leg culottes offer one of my current favorite pant styles. Although the factory store only offers black in both the blazer and pants, I do enjoy it since I can easily break up the pieces and wear them separately the rest of the year. Looking to go bold? I adore velvet in berry and jewel tones, retaining the sophisticated look of the fabric.
I also wanted to note my accessories, since I’ve received sooooo many compliments on both my bag and shoes! My bag is a dupe of the Shrimps Antonia Bag, which I purchased on Shein for approximately 5% the cost of the original! [You can also check out this post for a better look at my duped pearl tote.] I thrifted my Zara shoes at Beacon’s Closet in Brooklyn earlier this year. Zara shoes can be either designer dupes or totally unique, and it was really tough to find something similar to these. I would recommend going to any heeled shoes with satin fabric. These heels by Aldo are a stunning choice!
