Red is making a comeback! I may be biased since Valentine’s Day was right around the corner but lately I’ve seen hints of red everywhere – red shoes, red bags, red lips, red everything! Here’s the thing about red, though: I usually only take it in small dosages. A pop of red in an outfit gives it a strong punch and attitude that might not otherwise be there. Unlike my favorite colors to wear – black, white, grey, navy, brown – it’s stands out in the crowd.
I’m wearing my new favorite boots: patent red heeled booties with a square toe by Zara. The boots were a recent find from their annual winter sale and I have not stopped wearing them since I bought them. (It’s a problem, lol) I’m also wearing red leather fingerless gloves, a Marc Jacobs sample sale find and by find I mean a near manhunt through 10 bins stacked full. It’s paired with a fairly casual outfit: a blazer style jacket and belted stripe dress.
How To Wear Red
Shoes
If you’re shoes obsessed like me, getting that pop of red is super easy in a cool shoe. With spring around the corner, ankle boots were the perfect shoes for this in-between weather. I’ve been eyeing slouchy, knee-high red heeled boots though that would be great for fall and winter! A long skirt or wide leg pants over red boots will have you ready for the perfect street style look.
Accessories
The red gloves were already in my closet so I popped those on immediately! I absolutely love effortless french style and the recent rise of the beret. I’m already planning a red beret purchase soon which would look great in the spring. Handbags make for great accessories in the same color. Although bags for me are an investment, I see the value in having a knockout red bag that’s perfect for a night out.
Details
Standout details like embroidery, prints, and ribbing are truly accentuated by the color red.
The lesson here? Red is in, so it’s time to build up the red in your wardrobe. Shop each of the items linked above, and my full outfit is linked below!
