Breaking bad habits. Mental health. Fitness. I had lofty goals as I started 2019 but I was determined to achieve them! In January, I embarked on a fitness journey after being fed up with the weight I’ve recently gained. Weighing in at 153 pounds on January 1st certainly wasn’t a pleasant way to start the year, but it was important to set a starting point and work toward my new year resolution.
Progress
I’m proud to share that I lost 3 pounds, weighing in at 150lbs this morning!
No, this is not the progress I wanted, but it’s a step in the right direction. I’ve kept to my promise: Going to the gym and training with a personal trainer twice a week, hopping on to my treadmill on non-gym days for 30-day incline walks, and going to Y7 yoga classes through credits on my Classpass trial. It’s honestly been a part-time job between commuting, working out, and the extra loads of laundry!
What’s Next
Diet
Something I truly want to work on in February is my diet. I didn’t go into January with a diet plan, perhaps because I wanted to ease my way in. I quickly found out that if I wanted real results, I needed to work on how I was feeding my body.
February is actually a crazy month: unpredictable NYC weather, NYFW right in the middle, and a few less days than a normal month make it especially short and hectic. That’s why I’m finding it so important that I finally get my diet in control. I’m getting more veggies in (I’m a vegetarian, but a major carb and cheese lover), choosing healthy snacks like nuts and vegan dairy, and keeping track of my calories.
Luckily, Misfits Market came in so handy to get more fruits and veggies in my diet, and I’m totally loving it! Misfits Market ignores food beauty standards – yes, that’s a thing! Just think about going to the supermarket, and picking the nicest looking fruits and veggies and leaving behind all the slightly bruised, discolored, misshapen looking ones. Nearly everyone does this, even though they are all perfectly fit to consume. Misfits boxes this all up for as low as $19, up to 50% off regular grocery prices! It all gets delivered right to your door in an insulated box. You can get 25% off your first box with my referral link!
Workout Plan
Continuing to be consistent with my workout plan is going to be important, but more significantly is finding the time. I really want to work on hitting my treadmill in the morning on weekdays, rather than alternating dates when I don’t have personal training or other workout plans. It’s a great way to get the day started!
Though I’m not continuing my ClassPass trial for now, I’m planning on taking advantage of my current gym membership and hitting up local yoga studios when I need my zen fix. I love spinning and I’m glad my gym has spin classes nearly every day!
Sleep
I’ve always been such a good sleeper but lately my sleep patterns are totally off. All the things that used to work, simply aren’t anymore. Working out definitely helps and tires me out, but on days when I’m a bit more stressed out and anxiety levels rise, I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep. So I’ve been busting that bad habit and working on a new sleep routine, including:
- No meals or liquids 2 hours before bed.
- My dinner is a lighter meal that’s easy to digest (This is also a great weight loss dieting tip!)
- Meditating before bedtime: I’ve been loving the Headspace app to learn meditation basics and practice meditation for sleep
- When all else fails and I can’t get shut eye, I’m taking a Hum Nutrition Beauty zzZz. It’s a supplement made with melatonin and B6, major sleep inducers. (PS- If you’re interested in Hum Nutrition and all their awesome nutritional and beauty supplement – all are vegan! – you can use my code 1995A6 to receive $10 off!)
If you reached the end of this post – congrats! It was definitely a long one, but my fitness and wellness is a major priority to me this year. If you’re embarking on a fitness journey of your own, I would LOVE to hear from you! What have you found to be the the most successful tips in your journey? Let me know in the comments below.
