After my last post, I needed to take a short hiatus from blogging. Here’s the thing: life was crazy, I wasn’t motivated, and I’ve been doing a LOT of thinking. As a result, I decided to take that time to rethink Mint and Thrift, and what’s going to come next to my blog.
Life Update
I’m an NYU Alumnus! Over the past 2 and a half years, I worked hard toward my Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing. The end of each semester is always stressful, but I really wanted to dedicate time to my capstone project. Marketing takes a lot of mental capacity when trying to coordinate a strategy. I really like where I landed with my business idea and now I’m anxiously awaiting my grades and final GPA. Given the extra time spent strategizing on my final project, I had little time to coordinate photoshoots and write. With at least 10-20 hours back to my week, I can now dedicate more time to blogging! (More about that below).
Motivation
Although I consider myself a very determined person, I also easily get demotivated. Over the past few months, I have lost Instagram followers left and right. (I believe these are after affects of loop giveaways – never again!!) I had fewer pictures, less content, and more deadlines in my professional and scholar life that took precedence. It was a major bummer, but I’m starting to see a mood shift.
More importantly, I have been bored – bored with my own content. I don’t feel excited when I look back at some of my posts (a major problem). It shows in my Google Analytics numbers. This all culminates to my main point…
A Change in Direction
Mint and Thrift has been all about the clothes & shopping deals. Here’s the thing – it’s so hard to write because it’s so boring. Blame it on my background (I’m a marketer after all, and not at all professionally trained in fashion). I often find it difficult to highlight some articles of clothing that I truly love, or I’m just at a loss for words. I started thinking about stories I can write with a purpose – the things that truly strike my interest, while still carefully revolving around the clothes. Don’t get me wrong – this doesn’t mean I won’t highlight deals from time to time. I truly believe that there are a lot of products that can be purchased at a far more affordable price, and I will continue to deliver that message.
Furthermore, I don’t always purchase clothing from the current season! To highlight an item that is no longer available or close to selling out serves neither me or you any purpose.
So what direction am I taking Mint and Thrift to after-all? Here are a few of my plans:
- Empowering you: I would love to share with you my tips on being an introvert, my “secret sauce” to success, and more. Although fashion and clothing will always be central to Mint and Thrift, I hope to extend into other areas that are important to me in my real life vs. my Internet life.
- Beauty How-To’s you won’t find everywhere: Looking for advice for your difficult to manage hair? I’m here for you. I find there are lots of holes in the content widely available only, so I want to share my tips – they might help you!
- A peak into my lifestyle: Curious about my favorite workout? Did you know I’m a recent vegetarian? I have been pulled to sharing this type of content with you all so you can get a bigger picture of who I am outside of clothing and deals.
- Actual style tips: Trust me, I’m usually confused by what to wear many days, or solutions to some of my common clothing-related problems. I want to explore and share my findings and tips with you all!
- Deals: I’m not going to leave you hanging. Deal hunting is my passion and what I do during my free time. Whether that’s thrift shopping, sample sale shopping, or what to grab at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, that will still be here.
So there it is – the new Mint and Thrift in a nutshell. I truly hope this is something my current and new readers can enjoy! Confused, questions, or compliments? Comment below 🙂
