August is a rough month – The unofficial end to summer beckons tough heat, humidity, and desires to travel. This month’s must have’s are all about getting you vacation ready, beauty and haircare that’ll withstand the humid climate, and a touch of my personal sense of style.
Carol’s Daughter Monoi Shampoo and Conditioner
I just started to try Carol’s Daughter products in July and have been loving the results so far! Especially for curly and natural haired ladies, sulfate-free hair products are crucial to reducing frizz and improving the overall health of hair. I find that my hair feels light, less porous, and very soft. Carol’s Daughter Monoi line is the most popular, but there are tons of other products with different scents and purposes.
A Groupon for a formaldehyde-free Keratin treatment
I may need to chalk up some of my newfound hair softness and decreased frizz to my recent Keratin treatment. NYC ladies – have you noticed it’s impossibly humid this summer? I usually love summer, but this time around I have found it impossible to do my hair. I chose to buy a Groupon deal on impulse. It was my first Keratin treatment, and I knew I wanted to have a only formaldehyde-free products used. I find that’s usually more expensive, so getting this deal at less than $200 was a bargain! Overall, I’m very happy with my results!! I have ZERO frizz, my hair dries in 20 minutes (it used to take 45 or more), and it’s much more manageable than before.
Printed vacation blouse by Levi’s, sold at REVOLVE
How cute is this modern Hawaiian blouse?? As we turn to the later half of summer, I find this is a super cute top if you’re still planning on a late summer vacation to the Caribbean.
Little Oval Sunglasses by Quay Australia
I’m on the “PRO” side of the little sunglasses debate. I think they are so cool – hardly anyone wears them and they instantly add personality to your overall look.
Layering Necklaces from BaubleBar
Ok, this should actually be a three for one, but I LOVE layered necklaces lately!! Crescent shaped jewelry is always an instant favorite (my last name, Luna, means moon in Spanish). The second is a pendant with the Zodiac constellation design. I have owned a small one for years! Lastly, I love the vintage look of the last necklace – I’m a vintage lover after all!
There’s really no other way to stay cool this summer but to stay hydrated. The Swell Bottle, although on the expensive side of water bottles, is a top pick for me! I’ve owned a Swell bottle for 2 months now, and I am astounded at how long it can keep my water cool. They also make for great gifts!
Printed Headscarf
You won’t regret getting a headscarf! You can wear it as a headband, use it as a hair-tie for a ponytail, wear it as a turban at the beach… the possibilities are [nearly] endless!
Bermuda Shorts by Re/Done
Short-shorts have never fit my frame. I’m so excited bermuda shorts are “in” again!
Anti-Chafing Thigh Bands by Bandalettes
When I first heard about Bandalettes, I KNEW I had to have these! I always used shape wear to help with thigh chafing, but the minimal design of these makes it a breeze to wear during summer. What I really like is that these vary in size based on the circumference of your thighs. This makes them much more comfortable than traditional sizing (S, M, L) and easier to find the fit that’s best for you.
A ribbed, collared halter sold at Urban Outfitters
Another retro style here – I was probably 13 the last time I wore a top like this, but I just love the style lately. I would wear this with a cool skirt or even the bermuda shorts for a seasonally-appropriate outfit.
